Decluttering FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use a professional organiser? I could do it myself.
Like any activity we undertake, it helps to learn from an expert. You can do it yourself, but our service will make the job easier and ensure you prioritise the work. The reason you’re reading this could mean you feel overwhelmed, lack motivation, time or don’t know where to begin. We know where to begin, we are skilled in the process and when we turn up on your doorstep, the motivation will kick in.
I feel embarrassed by the mess and don't want anyone to see it. Will you judge me?
We’ve found this one of the most frequent worries amongst our clients, so you’re not alone. We don’t judge, we’ve seen it all before and you can depend on our confidentiality. Our agreement includes a confidentiality clause, and nobody will know we’ve visited you unless you tell them. We’re there to get on with the job and ensure your goals for a clutter free and organised home are achieved.
Will you make me get rid of all my posessions?
You are in total control of what stays and what goes. In our role as professional organisers, our job is to guide you and help you make decisions. If there’s a lot you want to keep, we will help organise and store the items so you feel more in control. If you want to part with a lot of items, we’ll advise and sort them into groups according to the different ways they can be recycled, sold etc.
Do I need to be with you?
We prefer our clients to be there so we can maximise efficiency during the session. Many sessions require sorting and deciding what stays and what goes, we don’t decide this, but we do advise so need the client close at hand. Our sessions are also designed to educate so you have a system to keep on top of things in the future. If you feel you’d like to tackle other rooms yourself, we can put together a plan to help you do this. Sessions work best when there are no interruptions, so it’s best if disruptions are kept to a minimum.

There are some situations where we can work alone, for example our home office decluttering service, but it would be helpful if you are easily contactable during this time to answer questions.

How long does it take?
This varies depending on how much needs to be done and how long decisions take to be made. We work in timed ‘sessions’ and at a pace you are comfortable with. We do as much as we can during each session and encourage you to focus on the task at hand. Decluttering and organising can be both physical and emotional. We offer three, four and five hour sessions and it’s up to you to choose a length of time which suits you. We can also undertake work by the day and with both of us there if time is of the essence.
Should I buy storage?
We don’t advise clients to spend money on storage beforehand, in fact, we’ve often found people already have the storage in place once the decluttering process is over. However, if storage is required we are happy to advise and provide links to storage solutions.
I've got other things I need organised. Can you help?
Louisa and Julia have both got a long history of organising. Whether it be a holiday, an event, a meeting, a house move or a birthday party. We can organise your fridge/freezer, your kitchen cupboards and the list goes on. Please get in touch if you have a request and we’ll let you know if it lies within our expertise.
Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes, if you’d like to gift someone a session or series of sessions, please contact us.
