Decluttering Process

How We Work With You

Initial Chat / Consultation

Just get in touch either by email, phone or via our website. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about our services.

This will be followed up by an initial FREE consultation which can take place either over the phone or in your home. We will discuss what you’re hoping to achieve and how Make Space can help you.

Proposal

We will then send you a proposal detailing the work needed, an estimate of how many sessions needed to complete the work, costings and our terms and conditions for signing. A confidentiality agreement is included in the terms.

If you are happy, we can then arrange a date(s) for the work to commence.

The Decluttering Process

We will work together with you throughout the entire process, our clients always have the final decision on what stays and what goes.

Our clients set the pace. For many, the decluttering process can be both emotionally and physically exhausting – that’s why our services are session-based. If a whole day is booked we advise taking breaks when required which will give you the chance to stop and reflect.

We make suggestions and offer encouragement at all times. We undertake any work in a calm, considerate and gentle manner and are completely non-judgemental.

We will begin by finding some space to sort out your items. The proccess will vary slightly depending on which service you have chosen, however generally they will be sorted into the following groups:

Keep – all items you want to keep hold of, either on display or within easy access.

Store – any items you wish to keep, but would like to store away.

Give Away – items a friend/family member will find useful or you’d like to give away via a free local recycling service.

Sell – unwanted items which you’d like to sell. We can put you in touch with people who can help you sell items if you don’t wish to do this yourself.

Donate – unwanted items which can be donated to a charity shop. We can advise on our preferred charities if you haven’t got one and even take these items to the shop for you if it’s conveniently located.

Dump – any unwanted items which don’t fit into the above categories. We can recommend companies who will help you with larger quantities than a car full.

For home office decluttering services we can recommend companies who offer a confidential shredding service.

For home moves, any items you wish to keep or have no immediate use for will be categorised and boxed up.

Once we have sorted your items, we can begin organising the items you wish to keep so they can be easily accessed. We will talk about storage solutions if they aren’t in place already – you may find you have enough storage after sorting. We can also recommend suitable storage if needed.

Once we’ve finished and the area is now clear, we will offer you tips and advice on staying organised in the long run.

Make Space will send you a follow-up email approximately one month after completion to find out how you are getting on.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about the decluttering process.
