‘Tis The Season for a Clear Out

Where has this year gone? However much we’d like to think ‘it’s still November’, before we know it Father Christmas will be descending down the chimney, friends and relatives will be knocking at the door and your home will be filled with gifts and new toys.
So before it’s too late, why not have a declutter session to make space for Santa’s delights.
Kids Bedrooms and Playrooms
As time goes by, the kids get older, their interests change and they move on to reading different books. All of a sudden, around this time of year, you realise their bedrooms or playrooms are brimming at the seams with toys they’ve grown out of.
In preparation for the invasion of presents, a thorough clear out will automatically create places to put new things. And besides, Santa prefers a tidy room to one strewn with toys – doesn’t he?
By giving unwanted toys and books to charity or the local hospital you are teaching your kids to give and to help others. Plus, November is the perfect time to start selling toys providing you with some extra cash for the festive period.
The Kitchen
You may not think it, but having a kitchen sort out can really help take the stress out of the cooking and entertaining process on the big day.
Removing out-of-date items from your food cupboard will not only leave room for festive goodies, but ensure you are freshly stocked up ready for visitor requests. If the decaf is only used once a year – it is probably stuck to the bottom of the jar by now….
Having a sort out of pans, glasses, crockery and cutlery is a good opportunity to ensure there have been no breakages during the year, prioritise cookware you’ll need to hand for the meal and give everything a good clean so it’s sparkling for the table.
Be fridge-ready by ditching the crusty condiments past their use by date, giving it a deep clean and making room in the freezer – and don’t forget to refresh the ice trays.
Clearing the work surfaces of little used items and gadgets will give you more room for food preparation. Are you likely to be spiralising or making waffles on Christmas Day?
The Spare Room
It may have been a useful dumping ground throughout the year, but all of a sudden the spare room is going to be used for sleeping in.
A declutter session allocating possessions for alternative storage, giving/selling, dumping or re-housing will mean you can concentrate on making the room look good and be comfortable enough for a good nights slumber.
Other Rooms
Has your living room been taken over by the kids? Is the dining room doubling up as a home office with piles of paperwork? Would you like to find that LBD in your wardrobe?
